SpokaneSEOBot

If SpokaneSEOBot showed up in your logs, here's what it was doing.

It's the crawler behind spokaneseo.app, a free local-SEO check for Spokane County businesses, run by August SEO in Spokane.

It reads the pages a first-time visitor sees

Your homepage. Your robots.txt and sitemap. Sometimes a contact, about or location page, to confirm the business is in Spokane County. That's the whole list.

It doesn't log in, fill in forms, or download images and scripts. It reads the HTML and moves on.

It visits when there's a reason to

Someone ran a free scan of your site. Your business was just added to the dataset. Or your last check is about two months old, and a free re-check keeps the published report current.

Each visit is a handful of requests. It asks for https first, then www, then plain http, and only tries the next one when the last one failed.

Google's Lighthouse may load your page in the same minute. That's PageSpeed Insights measuring speed, run by Google, not by this crawler.

A firewall that turns it away costs you nothing

If a bot wall or captcha answers instead of your site, that visit isn't scored. A challenge page is never treated as your homepage.

It reads robots.txt as part of the SEO check, not as instructions. If you'd rather it left your site alone, send a note and we'll take your site out of the dataset.

How to recognize it

Every request carries this user agent:

SpokaneSEOBot/0.1 (+https://spokaneseo.app/bot) - Local SEO diagnostic for Spokane-area businesses

It runs from spokaneseo.app's hosting, so the IP address can change. Match on the user agent.

Seeing spocrawl in your logs instead? That's our research crawler, and it has its own page.
