What to fix first, and why

Mercedes-Benz of Spokane has strong review volume and a solid rating, but the site doesn't appear in the map results for the tire searches that drive local foot traffic. That's where most buying decisions start. The homepage also loads past Google's 4-second poor threshold on a phone, which means visitors leave before the page finishes rendering. The first fix is foundational: complete the Google Business Profile, add LocalBusiness schema with consistent name, address, and phone, and align the page title and H1 to include the city.

What to Fix, in Order

Most costly first. Every fix is written out in full.

Fix first2

  1. Ranks #8 in Google's web results for the main search, past the top seven.

The fix: Fix the foundational signals first: GBP completeness, LocalBusiness schema with NAP, on-page title + H1 with city.

Why it matters · for your developer

Most clicks go to the first few results. The way up starts with the foundation: structured data, the Google profile and page basics.

Map & search position. Outside the top results (organic #8): The site does not rank in the top 7 organic results for its primary local query.

  2. The site is slow on a phone.

The fix: Compress images, defer non-critical JS, and serve from a CDN. Focus on Largest Contentful Paint.

Why it matters · for your developer

Most local searches happen on phones. A slow load loses visitors before the page appears.

Speed & Google checklist. Slow mobile performance: Mobile performance score is 47/100. Google uses mobile speed as a ranking factor.

When there's time1

  1. The search preview is 199 characters, longer than Google shows.

The fix: Rewrite the meta description with a concrete benefit and local keyword. Target ~150 characters.

Why it matters · for your developer

Under 70 characters says little, and past 160 it gets cut off. The preview is the pitch under the link.

Page basics. Meta description is too long (199 chars): Meta descriptions display best between 70 and 160 characters.
